Introduction
Jesus called us to be his disciples. This is an action word that speaks of the practice of learning from Jesus’ teachings and example and then applying them to our life. As Lord of our lives, Jesus expects us to take his guidance seriously. In order to do that, we must study and understand what is taught in scripture.
The goal of this tutorial is help you understand the scriptures better (by that I mean the Old and New testament).
This tutorial will begin with an overview of what is involved in bible study so you can get started right away. Study is something you grow into through practice and guidance. We will then go over different elements in more detail to deepen your understanding.
This is a tutorial. That implies that you are putting these principles into practice as they are being presented. The intention is not that you would simply read through this entire tutorial and then begin to apply it. It is also recommended that you work through this tutorial with someone else if possible. Discussing your bible study with someone else is always a good practice and especially when you first start out.
We have presented worksheets and other tools with this study. They will help you through the process, but they are not special in and of them self. Once you learn the principles, you may discard the worksheets in favor of another tool. There is an added benefit of the tools, though. They will help you to be able to teach someone else what you have learned. A central concept of discipleship is being able to pass of what you have learned to someone else.
