Purpose Statement

Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship is part of Chi Alpha Campus Ministries Boston. We are open to all students and we hope to create an open environment where those outside the church can bring their questions and explore the life of Jesus and where Christian students can find growth and encouragement.

There are five objectives that sum up everything we do with Chi Alpha.

1. We believe that a Christian should grow devotionally — This means to grow relationally with God and communication is a central feature of a growing relationship. This involves learning to read the bible for ourselves, growing in our prayer life and in our expression of worship, and active service of those around us.

2. We believe that a Christian should think theologically — All of us have a picture of the world that helps to form our life decisions. To think theologically means that we actively pursue the truth as God has revealed it. As the Creator, God has a corner on the truth (We make this claim for God and not for ourselves. We are still learning.). God uses the truth to guide us into a right relationship with himself, ourselves, others, and the world in general. This involves the study of God and of humanity and the development of a Christian worldview.

3. We believe that a Christian should live communally — Jesus came to reconcile us to God and to each other. The two greatest commandments involve our love for God and our love for each other. There is no such thing as a Lone Ranger Christian. We are called to learn to live lives of peace and encouragement with each other and to heal the rift that sin has caused. This involves being actively involved in each other’s lives through service and encouragement. This often happens through our bible study and support groups.

4. We believe that a Christian should walk wisely — Christianity is not merely a set of beliefs. It is a way of life. Jesus called all of us to be his disciples. A disciple is one who learns from a master and then put what he has learned into action, an active apprentice. There is a way that leads to life and a way that leads to death. Our actions reflect which road we are on. We offer assistance with this through teaching, retreats, and other instruction. On a more individual level counseling and small groups are available.

5. We believe that a Christian should serve globally — Jesus has committed himself to care for our needs and he has called us to look out for the needs of others. He told us that if we lost our lives for his sake, then we would find life, but if we tried to save our own lives and live selfishly, then we would lose our lives. We are called to care for those close to us and for those in other countries. Christianity involves rolling our sleeves up and getting our hands dirty. This involves service projects locally, as well as missions opportunities on other campuses and in other countries.
